The origin of this species is almost uncertain, because this
heavily spined bromeliad has been used, since the 16th century, in living hedges, many
years before the barbed-wire came out. It is very efficient in holding back farm animals.
So this wild pineapple was dispersed over all Brazilian states and to Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. |
