Ananas bracteatus (LINDLEY) SCHULTES filius

The origin of this species is almost uncertain, because this heavily spined bromeliad has been used, since the 16th century, in living hedges, many years before the barbed-wire came out. It is very efficient in holding back farm animals. So this wild pineapple was dispersed over all Brazilian states and to Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.
